tuzlali.net home page: search box and Tuzla business map (Turkish interface)

tuzlali.net is a local information platform we built for Istanbul's Tuzla district and still run ourselves. Neighbourhoods, businesses, public places and information that changes every day sit in one structure, with where each piece came from and when it was last updated in plain view.

01
The local information problem

In Tuzla, the answer to an everyday question is usually spread across several places: which pharmacy is on duty today, what a neighbourhood's postcode and local office are, whether a business's address and opening hours are still right. That information sits in OpenStreetMap, Istanbul's open data portal, industrial-zone company directories, neighbourhood office lists and institutions' own websites, each in its own format. We treated this as a product problem rather than a content job: bring scattered records into one data structure, and keep the source of every piece visible.

02
A plain interface on a strong information architecture

The site rests on three core entities: neighbourhood, category and business. Each of the 17 neighbourhoods has its own fact sheet, each of the 14 categories its own list, each business its own record page, and they are linked to one another; a business page links to its neighbourhood, its category and similar places nearby, with distances. We kept the interface plain so it never gets in front of that structure: the home page opens with a search box and a map, long lists have in-page search, and each page does one job. The interface is there to take people to the record they need, not to draw attention to itself.

03
Reliable, living information

Business pages show whether the owner has verified the record, and most also say which source the information came from and on what date. Gaps are not hidden: the methodology page publishes how many records have coordinates, an address, a phone number and opening hours, and when coordinate coverage for a type falls below 70 percent, no distance or absence statement about that type is generated. The on-duty pharmacy list refreshes automatically three times a day; the job index refreshes roughly every two weeks and states plainly that it does not take applications. Errors can be reported by email, business owners can claim and correct their records for free, and ad slots are labelled as ads.

04
Real user journeys

Three typical uses follow the same logic. Someone who wants to know their neighbourhood goes from the neighbourhoods page to its fact sheet and sees the postcode, the local office's contact details, bus lines and the number of markets, pharmacies, schools and parks within 1 km on one page. Someone looking for a particular business searches by name, category or address and finds the address, phone, opening hours, data source and similar places nearby on its record page. Someone who needs a pharmacy at night opens the on-duty page and sees that day's dated list, an option to put the nearest first, and each pharmacy's source record. Each journey starts with a question and ends, one or two pages later, with an answer whose source is visible.

05
What this proves

tuzlali.net looks nothing like the other work in this portfolio, and that is deliberate. We do not apply one visual language to every project: where a brand has to carry atmosphere and reputation, we build image-led experiences; where the information itself is the product, we build a plain interface, a sound information architecture and a data layer that runs on schedule. Here design, data structure and technical operation were decided together, and the product is still updated every day.
